YOUR RESULTS

How you will receive your results

As a participant in the NC Private Well Water Study, you will receive the results for your private well unless you indicated that you do not wish to receive your results. You will receive your results in two ways: mailed and online.

Online Results

Your results will be available to you online. You will receive a login and password either via email or by phone from one of our study leads. You can use this login and password to access your results online for up to 4 months. Please be sure to print out your results so that you can keep them for your records. If you have any questions, please contact the study lead by emailing privatewell@ncsu.edu

Mailed Results

Your mailed results will arrive at the address you provided to the study lead. If you need to change your address, please contact the study by emailing privatewell@ncsu.edu

How to read your results

Your results will be given to you in two ways.

  1. All of your results will be shown in a table. This table will include the name of the substance that we tested for, the associated measurement, and the group of contaminants that it is related to.
  2. Your results will be shown in a chart that will allow you to compare your results to other results from the study and to the regulatory, health advisory, and action levels set by the US EPA.

Units

The units that your results are reported in will tell you how much of a contaminant is in your water. The units used will be one of the following: mg/L or ug/L. mg/L stands for milligram-per-liter or part-per-million (ppm). 1 mg/L is approximately the same amount as one cup of water in a swimming pool. ug/L stands for microgram-per-liter or part-per-billion (ppb). 1 ug/L is approximately the same amount as one drop of water in a swimming pool.
